| A shelter for distressed pet owners Domestic Dog Total Network Pure was established in 1983 to provide a place for information exchange and shelter for troubled pet owners. Since then, we have been focusing our efforts on therapy for those owners with pet problems, which had not been explored by anyone before. As a result, numerous situations have been documented, and we have been studying the psychological interaction between pets and their owners based on this gathered information. In 1999, we broadened the field of our study, to the loss of pets and terminal care, thus changing from Domestic Dog Total Network Pure to Pure Psychological Interaction Institute of The Owner & Companion Animal. The owners psychological distress affects their pets: After listening to what worried owners have to say, we are convinced that pets are directly affected by the mental conditions of their owners. Quite a few pet owners, without realizing it, reflect an unsatisfied part of their lives on their pets, placing the pet in a stressful environment, which causes behavioral problems. The more we know about the relationship between pets and their owners, the deeper and more complicated it becomes. TOP DOG Partner Dog project to start in Japan: Do you know what TOP DOG is? This is a project where the service dog is to be trained directly by the physically challenged individual. There has been no such system in Japan. In 2001, we started our new project, Partner Dog to train TOP DOG and implemented this system nationwide within Japan. The Pure Counseling Center was completed in October 2001 at 1-6-21 Kyutaro-cho, Chuo-ku, Osaka, Japan, equipped with the Partner Dog training facility, therapy room and a classroom for training pet counselors. At Pure, we call pets companion animals or partners in counseling. In this brochure, however, the word pet is used to avoid misunderstanding by the public. |
